FIFA

Congratulations to France on becoming World Champions. Well deserved. Sports teaches so much to us and Croatia taught us perseverance and played with such heart and determination and should be very proud of themselves .
France had two solid goals, but Croatia deserved to win. Had far more possession, shots on target, more creative and created chances. Mandzukic own goal was unlucky, but penalty decision was outright ridiculous. Croatia & it’s 4 million people should be very proud.
FIFA Football World Cup 2018 Winner France defeating Croatia 4-2 in an epic final in Moscow bringing curtains down. Not surprisingly, the epic match resulted in a deluge of memes, contributing to the FIFA frenzy on Twitter. Moreover, while many commemorated France’s win, others also appreciated Croatia for their performance in this world cup.
The match between the two countries remained quite intense all throughout, even though France kept a lead of 2-1 till half time. A major boost for France in the first half was an unexpected own goal by Mario Mandzukic, which gave them an immediate lead, followed by a penalty that, where they scored again.
While, Croatia gained momentum with Mandzukic scoring in the second half and touching the 4-2 score but it wasn’t much to pull the team through the second half. Though, the team tried real hard but failed to even score a third. France scored through Paul Pogba and Kylian Mbappe before a Hugo Lloris blunder helped Mandzukic make amends for his earlier transgression. All three goals in the second half came in a crazy 9-minute period.
France lifted the World Cup for the second time and Croatia once again couldn’t beat the French side.
The French national team was crowned world champions after defeating an underdog Croatian team 4-2 in the World Cup final in Moscow on Sunday, capturing its second World Cup title and its first since it hosted the 1998 tournament 20 years ago. Les Bleus manager Didier Deschamps was the captain in 1998 when his team shocked Brazil in Paris, and on Sunday he became the third to ever win the World Cup as a player and coach.
In a match that featured anything you could have ever imagined, an own goal, a goalkeeper gaffe, pitch invaders and a teenager wunderkind finding the back of the net, France rolled to a convincing 4-1 lead and managed to hold on to earn its second star.
A  penalty-kick goal from Antoine Griezmann and goals from Paul Pogba and Kylian Mbappe were enough to lift one of the pre-tournament favorites to the title, capping off a magnificent run in the group stage and the knockout stage that featured wins over Australia, Peru, Argentina, Uruguay and Belgium. Here's everything you need to know about Sunday's wild final.
It didn't take too long for this one to get going. Despite Croatia playing better in the first half, a mistake gifted the lead to France. Mandzukic headed the ball into his own goal 18 minutes in on a set piece to make it 1-0. Mandzukic became the first player to score an own goal in the World Cup final. For those counting at home, there have been 20 World Cup finals before Sunday's match.
Just 10 minutes later, Croatia knotted things up off a lovely set piece that ended with Ivan Perisic rocket golazo. It's probably one of the best goals you'll have seen this tournament, and it's significant because it happened in the most important game these players have ever played. High stakes, great goal.
In the end, it was destiny for France and heartbreak for Croatia, who was playing in its first final. A wild World Cup concluded with a team everyone thought could win actually doing so, while Croatia's miracle run falls painfully short. There could only be one winner, and a deserved France team managed to step up with its most convincing showing of the tournament when it mattered most.
France win World Cup for second time, after winning in 1998.
Deschamps third person to win the World Cup as both player & manager.
Mandzukic own goal, Griezmann pen (after VAR review), Pogba and Mbappe for France.
Perisic and Mandzukic (from Lloris error) for Croatia.
Modric named best player, Mbappe best young player, Courtois best goalkeeper.
Great respect to the President of Croatia:

1. She did not miss a single match.
2. Travelled in economy class.
3. Always in the stands with the fans.
4. Values football.
5. Loves everyone.

Walk in Zoo

Last week we went to the Dehiwala zoo. I went with my father, mother, sister and brother. We reached the zoo at around 12.00 p.m. We bought tickets and entered the zoo. First we all felt so much of hungry. Therefore we had our lunch in a restaurant. Then went to see the birds. There were many birds of beautiful colours.
The Dehiwala Zoo, also known as the Colombo Zoo, is one of the oldest zoological parks in Asia. The National Zoological Gardens of Sri Lanka is called as Colombo Zoo in Dehiwala is founded in 1936.Its sprawling areas are host to a variety of animals and birds. The zoo exhibits animals but also places an emphasis on animal conservation and welfare, and education.
The zoo has dense tree coverage and well landscaped gardens. To provide more natural habitats some lawns of the Zoo have been converted into small forest patches which are rich in rare plants. Valuable medicinal plants are prominent among the trees in these patches.
The zoo spreads over an area of 11 acres and has a rare collection of fauna from all across the world.
The zoo has an impressive collection of some 3000 animals and 350 species. There is also a charming little butterfly garden that seems like it is out of some fairy tale book.It is decorated with small shrubs, trees, a rippling creek and beautiful creepers.
It has a substantial collection of worldwide animals. It is open all year long and can be reached by public transportation. Diversity of the zoo is indicated by the presence of an aquarium, walk through aviary, reptile house, butterfly garden and many small, dilapidated cages and enclosures, housing starving, bored animals, living in prison-like conditions.
The zoological garden has a small, but picturesque butterfly garden which is decorated with small shrubs, trees, creepers and small streams. The butterfly garden exhibits 30 species of butterflies with their all stages of life cycle for educational purposes.
The highlight of this zoo is the elephant show, which is held every evening. The elephant's performance are held at elephant arena with certain time table. In shows elephants are performed very talentfully and such standing on their heads, wiggling their backs to music, hopping on one foot and standing up on their hind legs. This is an extremely cruel practice which is forced upon the elephants. The elephants in Dehiwala Zoo are chained, throughout the day in abusive conditions. Many of these elephants are showing neurotic and self-harming behavior, such as swaying back and forth all day long.
Along with this the sea lion performance is another wonderful experience. The sea lions' performance are displayed daily at the sea lions' pool according to a time table. Two California sea lions are fed by their keepers during this wonderful moment. Unfortunately, this sea lion was housed in a measly enclosure, with a makeshift bathtub to swim in, when not performing. That is the reality of the 'wonderful' moment.
We also saw lions, tigers, bears, monkeys and cheetahs. The monkeys were very cute and I fed them. We also saw many other animals such as crocodiles, fishes, chimpanzees and apes.
One of the main attraction of Dehiwala Zoo is Sanju - a baby chimpanzee. Sanju was hand raised and now its show is exerted as educational programme about the chimpanzee's behaviors . People can enjoy Sanju's daily performances. It would be curious to know if Sanju enjoys his 'own' performance.
After that we walked along the lanes of the zoo. We went to the Aquarium. There we saw many varieties of fish such as Nemo, Catfish and Capfish.
There was so much of foreigners came to visit our zoo.
Elephant rides, pony rides, restaurants, boat riding, ice cream shop, and a souvenir shop are available facilities for the visitors.
Then we went to a shop where we ate popcorn. After that we sat under a tree and had our tea with cake and biscuits. At 8.00 p.m. we returned home. We will never forget this trip.

RAMAZAN FAST

Islam has bequeathed two festivals for its followers, namely EID UL FITR- Ramazan festival and EID UL AZHA-Haj festival. Both are to be celebrated after some sacrifices, for  then, they are valued more.

Muslims in Sri Lanka will be celebreating EID UL FITR during the socond week of June. The festival begins at the first sighting of a new moon in the sky, for the month of Shawwal, which marks the end of Ramadan. EID means recurring happiness or festivity. UL FITR means breaking of fast.

Ramazan is the ninth and holiest month of the Islamic calender, and a time when muslims across the world fast during the hours of daylight. Ramazan is the fourth of the five  pillars of Islams. Many muslims attempt to read the Qur'an an at least once during Ramazan period.

Fasting is intended to help teach  Muslims self-decipline, self-restraint and generosity. It also reminds them of the suffering of the poor, who may rarely get to eat well. It is common to have one meal whichone is known as the suhoor, just before sunrise and another known as a ifthar, derectly after sunset. Ramazan is a time to spend with good things and family.

The five fillars of Islam are the five obligation that every Muslim must satisfy in order to live a good and responsible life according to Islam. Carring out these obligations provide's the framework of a Muslim's life, and weaves their everyday activities and their beleifs into a single cloth of religious devotion.

The five fillars of Islam;

1. SHAHADA
To believe there is no God but Allah and the Muhammed is his messenger.

2. SALAAH
To pray five times a.day.

3. ZAKAT
To give alms or charity to benefit the poor and the needy.

4. SAWM
To fast during the month of Ramazan.

5. HAJJ
To make a pilgrimage to the Holy City of Macca during the month of ZUL HAJJ.

Muslims refrain from eating, drinking and smoking from dawn to dusk. Many spend long hours praying or reciting the Qur'an. They avoid committing sins and shaow compassion to the less fortunate.

Families and frienda gather at sunset for IFTHAR that break the fast.
The other meal SUHOOR is taken just before down.

The festival is an important time for Muslims to ask for forgiveness. Not taking part in any fasting just before Ramadan would also mean you're in good health and ready for an entire month of abstaining from food and drink for a large part of every day.

As the Ramadan fast only extends from early morning until sunset, there is plenty of opportunity to replenish the body's energy stores at pre-dawn and evening meals.

This prevents the body breaking down muscle to use protein as an emergency source of energy. The fasts of Ramadan can improve a person’s health but - if the correct diet is not followed - could make it worse.

It should contain foods from all the major food groups - fruit and vegetables; bread, cereal and potatoes; meat, fish and alternatives; milk and dairy foods; foods containing fat; foods containing sugar.

Suhoor, the pre-dawn meal, should be a wholesome, moderate meal that is filling and provides enough energy for many hours. It is therefore particularly important to include slowly-digesting foods in the Suhoor.

Iftar is the meal which breaks the day’s fast.
This meal could include dates, following the Prophetic traditions. Dates will provide a refreshing burst of much-needed energy. Fruit juices will also have a similar revitalising effect.

The meal should remain a meal and not become a feast. Try to minimise the rich, special dishes that traditionally celebrate the fast and keep to the advice above.

Night precedes the day in the Islamic calender and the month is either 29 or 30 days. The sky is monitored for the new moon on the night of Sha'ban, and if the moon sighted the first day of Ramazan is declared. The same method is adopted to determine the end of Ramazan  and the celebration of EID UL FITR.

EID UL FITR  the festival of breaking of the fast, is a festive religious holiday which felt on June 15 this year, observed by Muslims worldwide that marks the end of Ramazan, the Islamic holy month of fasting which is SAWM.

EID UL FITR is the firat day of the Islamic month of SHAWWAL. The date on which the festival begins is determined by a confirmed sighting of thr new moon.

To make the beginning of EID, specific prayers are performed at mosques before families and friends host gathering and feasts, but it is also a time of giving thanks to ALLAH for the strength to complete the spiritual fasting.

Celebrations are seen as families and friends visit, with traditional sweet dishes, early morning have bathe and clean themselves and around, wearing new cloths, going to mosque, giving gifts, enjoying etc.

Meaning of EID UL FITR is a time for Muslims to give in charity to those in need and to celebrate with family and friends the completion of a month of blessings and joy. Unlike other Islamic holidays, EID UL FITR is not tied to specific historical events but is a general celebration of fellowship with one's local community.

In contrast to the devoted calm of the rest of the Ramadan observance, EID UL FITR is marked by joyful happiness at having been released from religious obligation and forgiven for sins. Once the celebration begins, it may continue for up to three days. This is a time for Muslim families to share their good fortune with others.

Eid-ul-Fitr comes on the first day of Shawaal, (Shawwal is the day of festival and when all sins are forgiven as a reward for fasting and prayers in the month of Ramadan). This is most pure, pious and divine festival of Muslims and was first originated by Prophet Muhammad -“ last  Prophet of Islam”. Islam is a religion founded by Muhammad, whose disciples believe in worshiping only one God. (God is called Allah in Arabic) and follows the teachings of the Koran. Islam means “submission to the will of God”. Festival of id-ul-fitra begins with Eid-al-Fitr- which comes  on the tenth day of Zil-Hijjah, the last month of the Muslim year. The Islamic Eids are unique in each aspect of religion or spiritualty.

History of EID-UL-FITR

According to A hadith (words, actions, or habits of the prophet Muhammad) migration was the important reason behind occurrence of these two pious festivals in Madinah.

By the arrival of Prophet Muhammad at the city of Madinah, Prophet Muhammad observed people celebrating two days (stated clearly and in detail) in which people used to gladden and entertain by gaiety and fun. Witnessing this nature of these sorts of celebrations and gaiety at which people responded that these festivities were occasions of recreation and fun of days of jahilliyah. Regarding point, the Prophet Muhammad mentioned that two days of holidays has been set by Almighty God instead of these festivities for you, those days are far better and divine: “Eid-ul-Fitr and Eid-ul-Adha”.

Eid-ul-Fitr and Eid-ul-Adha

For Muslims, both the celebrations of Eid-ul-fitr and Eid-ul-adha are auspicious events of showing thankfulness to Almighty God and recalling him and a means of amusement and merriment. A’ishah reports that on the auspicious day of Eid when her father Abu Bakr Siddiq stopped some young girls from singing, Prophet Muhammad said: Abu Bakr! Every nation has their own ‘id and this is our Eid. During this holy monthy of ramdaan all muslims undergo fasting on daily basis from dawn until the dusk. Fasting in this month is best way for Muslims to develop self-discipline and self-control: By withholding from some of the carnal and basic desires and needs. In this fasting intake of beverages and food is prohibited including sex relations. Muslims believe that fasting in this month is a kind of exercise to develop pure self –esteem which strengthen of being obedient disciple of almighty god regardless of the lust towards sin.

Sick people, travelling, and elderly or women who are nursing and pregnant are allowed to break the fast and cover up the missed days of Ramadan later. If they are incapable to do this later, they must provide food to a needy one for every day they missed. Children are required to start their fasting right from their adolescent days. Even though fasting is advantageous for healthy well-being and it is considered chiefly as a way of spiritual self refinement.

Eid is a wholesome celebration of a remarkable achievement of the individual Muslim in the service of Allah. Muslims only listens to the eternal voice of allah during these days. The festival of Eid is also a thanksgiving day where the muslims assemble in a brotherly and joyful atmosphere to offer their gratitude to Allah for helping them to fulfill their spiritual obligations prior to the Eid. This form of thanksgiving is not confined to spiritual devotion and verbal expressions. It goes far beyond that to manifest itself in a beautiful shape of social humanitarian spirit. Even in the most joyful times the Muslims make a flesh stall of the day by a plural session of worship to Allah. They pray to Allah and glorify His name to demonstrate their remembrance of His favours. When Muslims assemble in the congregation of Eid day, they all whole-heartedly pray for forgiveness and strength in faith. And Allah has assured those who approach Him with sincerity  of His mercy and forgiveness.

Donation and food are given to the less fortunate in an act of thanks giving and with the common greeting of EID MUBARAK  by hugging to wish others.

Tour to WILPATTU

Picking you up from our hotel in the morning 8:00 hrs and we will be leaving to Wilpattu. The first halt on the way is in Chilaw.Afterward we will arrive at our destination, The great Wilpattu National Park.
The safari ride to Wilpattu National Park wasn't very lively one as a majority of the beautiful animals making it their home. Our safari  ranger , these animals have been so  stricken by war and destruction that everytime they see a moving vehicle miles away from them, they would still feel fear. The park being open to visitors, it's difficult to really get up close to view the animals in their natural habits.
We reach Wilpattu as a route from Colombo is via Negombo, Chilaw, Palaviya and Puttalam, the park office and the main entrance where we got ticket and one can obtain a ticket to enter the park is at Hunuwilgama, 7 km from the turn off from Puttalam- Anuradhapura road.
Wilpattu is located 30 kms north of Puttalam, approximately 190 kms from Colombo. Wilpattu National Park extends from the northwest coast toward inland ancient capital city of Anuradhapura, which is about 50 km to the east of the Park, covering 425 sq mile approximately.
Wilpattu sanctuary was declared as a National Park in 1983.Wilpattu is one of the largest and oldest National Parks in Sri Lanka.  The dry zone jungle is thickly grown. The park is 131,693 hectares and ranges from 0 to 152 meters above sea level. Wilpattu National Park is home for many Villus, or national lakes which dot the landscape in the Wilpattu National Park. History of the park is also interested with ancient ruins have been discovered in there.Queen named 'kuweni' is said to have lived in the place known as Kalli Villu.
Wilpattu is so called because of the series of Willis or natural lakes making it the 'land of lake'. We saw many jungle fowl, bears, deers, a few peacocks  and many birds. There are 31 species of mammals that have been identified within Wilpattu National Park like the threatened species including Elephant, Sloth deer, leopard and water Buffalo, bear, Spotted deer, Sambar and Mangoose.
The annual temperature in the Park is between 27°C to 30°C and its annual rainfall is approximately 900 mm. The Wilpattu National Park is situated in the dry zone but most of the time flora is very greenish and has plenty of water sources. The period between September to December is the rainy season while inter-monsoonal rains are expected between March to May. The period of drought in the Park extends from June to early September. The best time to visit the Wilpattu National  Park is February to October.
Then we will be starting our journey back to our hotel and on the way we can have some supper on the way back to hotel and arrive at the hotel around 20:00 hrs.

My poem of 'MY LIGHT'

He is my only light in the darkness
He has been my lamp,
For letting the light of his live
To turn the hardships into strengths.
I kill heavy darkness at times,
Then I see, He is my need
The light and love forever
He welcomes me when I am in the dark.
He gives his care and warmth
And kindness against the darkness
I am always glad in my heart,
Seeing the welcoming light from him.
He is my light in the darkness
Because firstly I feel someone helping me
Then I turn towards him, Yes
He turns my darkness ''into light''
